The Martingale system works like this, a player will need to choose a baseline bet. This will be their initial wager. It needs to be one that they can afford, because they will soon be doubling it. Every time a player wins, they are advised to continue betting the same amount. When they lose, it is recommended that they double their next wager, continuously doubling it until they win again. Once they win, as stated above, they are supposed to wager their original bet. Proponents of the Martingale system believe that this is a great approach to the game because they suggest that statistically, it is impossible to lose forever and hopefully, those double wagers will pay off in a big way, allowing players to recoup their losses.

Opponents of the system, obviously feel much differently. They consider the Martingale betting system to be potentially very costly and outrageous in its assumptions. Individuals can quickly lose a ton of money using this approach, burning through their bankroll in record time. Here’s a quick example, an individual decides that their baseline bet will be $10. They make a wager and win. The next bet will then again be $10. However, they lose their next bet, so they wager $20 the next time. They lose again and so wager $40. Another loss follows so they bet $80. They finally win again and so bet $10 the next time. This is followed by a loss, raising the bet amount back up to $40. They lose again and bet $80. They decide to stick it out and go along with the system and lose $160. They give it a go one more time, this time losing $320.

Looking at this example, a person can see how using this strategy can quickly become very expensive and ones night gambling while out on the town (or on the computer), could be over in less then an hour. Losing multiple times in a row in roulette is not unheard of and quite probable. The Martingale betting system isn’t a sound one. It can result in huge losses really quickly.

There is a system being promoted for just about every conceivable casino game. It is possible to purchase books or guides on how to beat the slot machines, win at blackjack and video poker. Are these systems legitimate? Do they work? In many cases, the answer is no. Aside from cheating, there is no way to guarantee a win at a casino game. They are set up in such this way by the casinos.
