American Roulette: American roulette is the primary form of the game played in the United States. It differs from both the European and French versions of the game. An American roulette wheel has 38 slots and is numbered 0 to 36. It also contains a 00. The house edge in an American roulette game is 5.26%.
Biased Numbers: These are the numbers that the roulette ball lands on when a biased wheel is used.
Biased Wheels: This is a roulette wheel that for some reason favors certain numbers. This is due to some sort of imperfection. Biased wheels are less common today. However, they were quite common in the past.
Big Number: This is a number on the wheel that the roulette ball lands on more than others. This may (or may not) be due to a biased wheel.
Black Action: This is a black chip that allows players to make a $100 wager.
Black Bet: This is a wager that the next number the ball lands on will be black.
Carre: Carre is a corner bet. It is a term used in French roulette.
Chameleon Strategy: A Chameleon strategy is one in which individuals copy those players at the roulette table who are winning.
Chasing Losses: A person is chasing losses when they are attempting to win back the money they have lost during a betting session.
Check Rack: This is the chip tray utilized in a roulette game.
Cheval: This is a split bet. This term is used in French roulette.
Column Bet: This is a roulette wager. Individuals have three column bets to choose from.
Corner Bet: A corner bet is one in which a player wagers on four numbers. To make this bet, individuals will place the roulette chip in the middle of the four numbers they would like to place their wager on.
Croupier: The croupier is the individual in charge of the game. They will accept all of the player’s bets, spin the wheel and pay out winnings.
Double Zero: The double zero is only present on the American roulette wheel. It is responsible for doubling the house edge. A wheel with a single zero has a house edge of 2.7%. The house advantage of a double zero wheel is 5.26%.
Dozen Bet: This is a wager on 12 numbers. There are three different dozen bets.
En Prison Rule: This rule is utilized in European and French Roulette. When a person makes an even number bet and the ball lands on zero, they are able to choose between surrendering half of their wager or allow it to be imprisoned. If they choose the latter, and they win on the next spin, then they are able to recoup their bet. This rule significantly decreases the house advantage.
European Roulette: European roulette is one of the most popular forms of the game. It is played primarily in Europe, though individuals from the United States can play it online. It is considered superior to American roulette, at least from the perspective of the players because the house advantage is so much lower, about half.
Fibonacci Betting System: This is a fairly popular roulette system. When players utilize it they are making wagers using a series of numbers where each number is the sum of the two before it. This system is only used when players experience a losing streak.
Five Number Bet: This is a wager commonly utilized in American roulette. A person that makes a five number bet will wager on 0, 00, 1, 2, 3.
House Edge: The house edge is the casinos advantage, specifically how much money they will make over the long haul. American roulette has a house edge of 5.26% which means that the house or casino will make $5.26 off of every $100 a player spends.
Inside Bet: An inside bet is one in which a player wagers on the numbers between or on the layout boxes.
La Partage Rule: This rule is used in French roulette. Individuals are able to lose only half of their wager if they make an-even money bet and the ball lands on zero. It is similar to the en prison rules and helps to significantly reduce the house edge.
Outside Bet: This is an even money bet, meaning that players will be wagering on black/red, odd/even or high/low. It pays out 1:1.
Pinching: This is a form of cheating where players take their chips off of the table before the wheel stops.
